Careers

We are principled, collegial, innovative, and dynamic, and we are seeking talented professionals who can build that culture and who enjoy the intellectual rigors, hard work, and practical realization of investing and trading.  Our success is based upon thoughtful and fact-based reasoning, with no defensiveness and quick learning from mistakes.  The right answer is often the result of open collaboration and all need to contribute to that process.

DCI is committed to the development of talented individuals who, in turn, are crucial to the firm’s continued success and growth.  In keeping with our view that raw horsepower and innate talent can be shaped and focused, our professionals share no common background, other than uncommonly sharp problem solving, analytic, and communicative skills.  DCI’s and its affiliates’ staff have academic backgrounds ranging from bachelor’s degrees to MBAs and PhDs; they come from a vast array of focus areas, spanning the spectrum from astrophysics to zoology; chemists, economists and historians have all succeeded here.  Our hiring is focused on analyst and associate roles; we develop the vast majority of our professional and management team from internal advancement.

Through an intense introductory training program along with subsequent on-the-job mentoring, we provide our new hires with the extensive background needed to rapidly come up to speed.  This provides a foundation in analytic methods for investment problem solving, effective business communications, data extraction and programming techniques, and strategic thinking.  We devote significant resources to the continual cultivation of our professionals; with robust channels for formal and informal feedback, we expect our new hires to grow into professionals capable of directing new initiatives and managing investment portfolios.

In our analytic and creative environment, those who are most successful possess the following attributes:

  • exceptional quantitative talent, with demonstrated intellectual and technical ability to work with massive datasets
  • creativity in problem solving
  • clear and concise communications
  • honesty and integrity
  • the humility to learn from mistakes
  • an ability to see strategic opportunities amidst the noise and clutter of the market
  • good judgment

As DCI is structured around trading teams, successful candidates are self-motivated and innovative, yet oriented to cooperate and tackle problems with fellow team members.

The analyst and associate positions are general investment professional roles; all of our employees are expected to contribute to the development of robust strategies to address the trading opportunities on which we transact.  Both roles involve development, implementation, execution, and results tracking of our core trading strategies.  Associates are expected to take on a broader set of responsibilities, including, over time, taking on leadership roles within the firm.  DCI professionals at all levels collaborate to refine and develop the critical activities of the firm.  And, as they advance, their focus becomes increasingly strategic.

Generally, undergraduates and candidates with limited professional experience join the firm as Analysts; graduates of PhD or MBA programs join us as Associates.  Other applicants are considered on a case-by-case basis.  Regardless, an excellent record of academic achievement in fulfilling a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) is necessary to become a DCI investment professional.
